Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Newquay

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is probably one of the fastest growing Martial arts in Newquay. Nick Tiscoe, BJJ Black Belt under Kev Capel, is head coach at Koncept Gym. Nick has competitive experience at every belt level.

Our classes are mixed level with an emphasis on BJJ for sport. All students will be graded according to IBJJF guidelines for belt promotion.

Students actively develop their technique to play the game of BJJ in a fun and friendly setting. We also believe students will develop their ability through grappling to attain a high level of self defence.

Everyone had to start somewhere, after all a black belt is a white belt that never gave up!

We welcome anyone to give BJJ a go and we will do our very best to help you develop and become the best version of yourself. We cannot promise that it will be easy, and there may be times you question yourself, however the longer things take to develop and achieve the longer they stay with you. All we ask is for you to give 100%, ask questions and show up to class. We believe BJJ can be a force for good.

BJJ is an excellent form of self-defence due to the grappling nature and close contact. BJJ can also help you lose weight, become fitter, move better, combat stress and anxiety and improve self confidence.

BJJ lineage of our team

Our BJJ lineage traces back to Rio de Janeiro. Carlos Gracie Senior awarded a black belt to his son Carlos Gracie Junior (Carlinhos). Carlinhos awarded the rank of black belt to his nephew Roger Gracie in 2004. Roger Gracie is considered the greatest competitor of all time and chose to settle in London in his teens. Consequently Roger Gracie started training many UK based martial artists in BJJ. Kev Capel received his black belt from Roger Gracie in 2011. Kev Capel promoted Nick Tiscoe to the rank of black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Cornwall in 2018.

Training at Koncept Gym

Most of our training is in the kimono or Gi. All you need to bring is a clean kimono and a friendly attitude. If you don’t have a Gi for your first class we can lend you one. Get in touch if you are in town and wish to train. We have welcomed every level from beginner white belt to world class competitor. As a result we have picked up the ability to learn something from everyone.

A black belt is a white belt that never gave up!

Don’t put it off, we are waiting for you and our doors are always open. If you start today, picture where you will be in one year from now. Probably in ten years you will be one of our black belts!

Students frequently compete at national and international competitions. Although this isn’t essential, our training will develop your skills to a high level. Previous students have won titles at British and European level and earned top national rankings. We run competition training sessions every week as well as sparring sessions.
