The North Shore brand was born out of high level performance training in surfing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Nick Tiscoe has been surfing for 30 years, and is a highly regarded black belt, competing internationally in both sports.
We are blessed to be located in a beautiful part of the country, in Cornwall. Newquay is surf city UK and we have in excess of seven fantastic surfing beaches on our doorstep. SurfJitsu is the heart of our day to day life!
In addition to our locality, Nick competed and taught surfing for eighteen years, and whilst he doesn’t run his own surf school anymore, he is well connected to arrange your surfing experience.

Our next event is scheduled for 7th-9th June 2024 at the 4-star Watergate Bay hotel just outside Newquay in Cornwall. We are partnered with 3-time world champion, Tom Barlow and will be offering a mix of gi and nogi training alongside surf lessons in a beautiful location, along with all the fantastic facilities you would expect from a beachside 4-star hotel.
We have close ties with many different types of accommodation, we can recommend the best eateries, we can help provide other activities and of course on top of your training we can take you surfing!
Surfing and BJJ have a long history, with many practitioners including top athletes in both sports having a shared interest.
Top athletes in BJJ known to have a passion for surfing include Roger Gracie, Marcus “Buchecha’ Almeida, Rickson Gracie, Magid Hage, the Ruotolo Twins and many more.
